 1.    The Five function of Human Resource Management.

There are many different Human Resource Functions, which depends on the nature of a business. The core functions could be identified as,

1.     Recruiting and staffing.

2.     Compensation and Benefits.

3.     Training and Development.

4.     Talent Management.

5.     Safety and Compliance (Russell, 2021).

 

These functions can be separate in most large organizations, but all their HR departments should share the same basic HR functions. Each of the core HR functions can be explained as followed,


1.1 Staffing

Staffing entails that the organizations’ ability to hire the appropriate number of employees with the necessary skills for the right job at the right time so that the organization will be able to achieve their goal. The steps include,


  • Job analysis – 

The process of deciding which skills, knowledge and duties that is required by the job.

  • Human resource Planning – 

The process of matching the internal and external supply of people or a job at the appropriate time.

  • Recruitment - 

Attracting people at the right time with an acceptable number with the required qualifications.

  • Selection –

 Choosing the best individual for the available position who can complete their tasks efficiently (Haygot Technologies, Ltd., 2020).

 

1.2 Compensation and benefits

The rewards that the employees receive for their effort can be explained under this function. There types of compensation are as follows,

  • Financial benefits - 
    • Direct financial compensation – Wages, Salary, Bonuses etc.
    • Indirect Financial compensation – Other financial compensation which includes holidays, sick leave etc.

  • Non-financial benefits – The satisfaction employees get by doing the gob (Russell, 2021).

1.3 Training and Development

Training and development include the following steps,

  • Training – Training is the job specific, and it provides the necessary knowledge and skills to do the current job.
  • Developing – Developing is a process that done in order to provide future jobs.
  • Career Planning – Career Planning helps an individual achieve their own career goals
  • Organizational Development - This is a process in which organizational structures and effectiveness is planned to be improved to achieve organizational Goals. 
  • Performance Management – is the process of maximizing the productivity of employees and in turn the organization.
  • Performance Appraisal – This is a method of measuring the effieciency of an individual or a team when performing a task.

1.4 Talent Management

This is also known as employee relations and is a HR Function that is broadened beyond the traditional boundaries of enforcing adherence to company policies and procedures, where the main goal is to create integrated processes that would improve performance. Good talent management in an organization will aid the company in gaining a competitive advantage iver its competitors (Russell, 2021).

 

1.5 Safety and compliance

Providing workers with a safe and healthy environment is an important aspect that needs to be fulfilled by an organization in order to ensure the safety of its employees and gain long term benefits from the human resource of the organization. Typically, safety professionals are not a part of the human resource department of an organization but there should be one or more practitioner working with the organization to provide safety training and monitor them (Russell, 2021).
