When employees feel appreciated, even if the organization is going through a hard time or if the situation is not idle, employees are more inclined to stay loyal the company that they work. By valuing the employees of the organization, the organization is able to increase the level of job satisfaction of the employees of the organization and this can lead to increased productivity and lower turnover (Miller, 2018)

 

1.1 Methods used to make employees feel appreciated.

Valuing employees is a powerful method in motivating employees of an organization and below show some methods employers and management of a use to make their workforce feel valued (Miller, 2018).

 

1.     Recognition –

The best and the most important method used by an organization management or employer, in showing appreciation to the employees in the organization is through the recognition of the employees’ work. By providing the proper recognition that the employees deserve, employees will feel more motivated to do the tasks provided to them by the organization and will give their best is accomplishing the tasks assigned to them. 

Management can do this by providing financial benefits such as bonuses or incentives etc. and through non-financial benefits such as providing employees with additional holidays or through promoting and giving employees additional responsibilities in order to show the trust the management or the employer have of the employee.

 

2.     Feedback – 

The counterpart of recognition is feedback. Rather than always criticizing and giving negative feedback to the employees, providing positive feedback will encourage employees to do more work. It will also help them feel valued for their efforts.

 

3.     Provide public recognition – 

Employers or managers can provide employees with public recognition. Unlike providing recognition in a one-on-one setting, providing employees with public recognition will aid the employee get a better image over his peers and feel more valued. This can also help the organization in motivating its other employees to perform better.

 

4.     Provide direct benefits – 

Providing direct benefits can take the forms of both financial and non-financial benefits. Examples for direct benefits are, providing direct bonuses or other forms of direct compensations, proving additional leave days, providing vacations, offering gift cards etc (Caboodle Technology Ltd, 2022).

 

 

5.     Say “Thank you”. –

The simplest but often forgotten form of showing appreciation to employees in an organization is simply saying ‘Thank You’. A simple verbal thankyou from management or by an employer can take you a long way in making employees feel valued in an organization. Be it, in a one-on-one situation, or in a group setting where employees are publicly thanked for their contribution in the organization will make employees feel highly valued in an organization (Miller, 2018)

 

6.     Investing in employee’s continual development –

By showing interest in the employee’s future and proving opportunities to grow and be more successful, employee loyalty can be increased in an organization. Highly loyal and capable employees with integrity are an irreplaceable asset to any organization around the globe. Therefore, providing opportunities and proper training to the correct individuals, be it on the job or off the training, is a true investment to any organization (Daskal, 2022)

  4. I can recall reading, appreciated employees tend be more productive than the others, recognizing the right employees are a token on appreciation, a thankyou is also a token of appreciation. Recognition must be in 360 degree and should be able to connect to the bigger picture of achieving the organizational goal.
